Drives
High-power, low-inertia DC motors drive the axis slides and working head via

ball-screw spindles and pre-clamped spindle nuts. Precise bearing governors

allow rapid and sensitive stabilisation of eroding gaps ranging from large to

very small.

In combination with the rigid structure, this drive system is the foundation

for outstanding eroding results in the roughing-down and fine-finishing area

(erosion polishing).

Measuring
Direct-measuring linear measuring bars prevent pitch and transmission errors,

thus ensuring high positional accuracy. Resolution from 0.001 mm to 0.0001mm

(OPTION).

Working Space
The requirement for good accessibility and automation is fulfilled to a

considerable degree by the elevating holder, which can be positioned to allow

for the height of the workpiece. Completely free access to the workpiece is

available from all sides. This constructional design facilitates automated

loading, unloading, and automatic lifting front door.

Monitoring
Trouble-free operation is dependent upon a range of monitoring devices.

- A height detector monitors maintenance of the set height

- Temperature monitors protect the machine from possible overheating of the
dielectric

- A safety cut-out in the Z-Axis disconnects the working voltage before the
electrode rises above the set dielectric level, dependably ensuring that
the dielectric does not ignite

Rinsing Device
Thorough rinsing is important for trouble-free operation. The working head is

fitted with several connection points. Suction or pressure-rinsing can be

selected. Automatic intermittent rinsing operates on all the connections.

Dielectric Plant
A variety of dielectric assemblies may be linked to the machine, depending on

the work tasks and plant sizes. The size depends on the generator output.

Automated Functions
Planetary erosion is possible as:
- 2-dimensionsal widening at a right angle to the direction of the bore (on
one side or circumferentially)

- 3-dimensional widening with:
- Stepped positioning along the bore
- Taper programs
- Hemisphere programs
- Boring with overlaid planetary motion

All generator settings are programmed as index codes

are pre-installed and programmable on the screen.

Operational Aids

Parallel programming while the machine is running saves setting-up time.

"Editing functions" such as program enter, program amend, add instructions,

and read/print NC program make programming the machine extremely simple.

Multimedia application with speech input, help texts and video sequences on

the TFT monitor simplify operation of the plant in all menu areas.


DEVELOPMENT II CNC CONTROL UNIT:
The 4-axis CNC Control Unit is designed for the specific requirements of

erosion users, and is capable of handling all exisiting bore erosion tasks.

Thus the control unit makes possible a self-operating sequence of whatever

processing steps are desired to produce a complex workpiece.

Operational and programming data is entered via a 14" VGA-TFT touch monitor

with changeable operating elements and help-text functions. Output is

displayed on a second 14" VGA-TFT monitor. Parallel programming is possible

during eroding. All information and data required for eroding is stored in

the memory and can be retrieved on screen and allocated to each programming

step.

Programing is performed in DIN with G-function for axis selection, M and S

functions for machine commands, T functions for tool exchangers, and H

functions for technology retrievals.

Pre-set cycles for planetary selections are integrated in the control unit.

These include circle, taper, ball, star, corner and surface, and are rotatable

in space by 90 degrees in all three axes. A co-ordinate transformation

facility allowing any desired spatial rotation in steps of 0.1 degrees over a

range of 360 degrees is available as an option.


The control unit allows "bore erosion" in all four axes individually or

linearly, two or three dimensionally, boring with superimposed planetary

automated sparking, and reverse travel limitation in all axes.

Automatic removal is programmable. Removal advance may be set to operate

logarithmically, or linearly in the planetary to the centre, or over a range

of 45 degrees.

CNC System
The control unit architecture incorporates real-time cycles of 1mS for the

input, processing and output or eroding processes and path positions. By

Systematic adherance to development stages, this is designed entirely in the

32-bit format.

Operational Modes
The following menu functions are available as operational modes:

- Set-up menu with: travel function, positioning function, reference-point

travel, teach-in programming, tool exchanger, rotation and C-Axis menu.

- Program menu with: program listing, re-setting, loading, storing and copying

of programs.

- Automatic menu with: program retrieval, technology retrieval, single-step

and sequenced step processing, erosion monitor and erosion analysis function.

- Technology menu with: loading and storage function, editing and copying

function, and search function with freely selectable criteria.

- Service menu with: machine parameter editing, self-diagnosis and software

optimisation functions.

Travel Measurement System
Resolution in the X, Y and Z Axes is 0.001 mm, or optionally 0.0001 mm. The

C-Axis has a mechanical resolution of 1.2 million points over 360 degrees and

an indicated resolution of 0.001 degrees.



DEVELOPMENT II ENGINEERING DATA-CONTROL UNIT SUMMARY:

clock speeds of 266 MHz and over.
